Winter Activities in Peace River You Can’t Miss

Winter Activities in Peace River You Can’t Miss

You’d be remiss to think that the people of Peace River don’t know how to celebrate winter because there are a plethora of things to do in the region. From the French festival Carnaval de St. Isidore, to outdoor activities like cross-country and downhill skiing, there are plenty of winter activities in Peace River to explore and experience.

Winter Activities in Peace River: Main Events

As previously mentioned, one unique event to the region is the Carnaval de St. Isidore which runs from Feb. 14-16. Celebrated every year since 1982, this francophone festival celebrates the vibrant francophone culture of Northern Alberta. You can enjoy some classic Canadian French food classics (like poutine!) while experiencing some of the festival’s distinct winter activities!

Tubing and Tobogganing

Unlike other parts of the prairies, the Mighty Peace region has plenty of opportunities to head down hills at top speed on a tube or toboggan. Grab your family and friends (and maybe even some hot dogs and firewood) for a great day in the snow.

Snowshoeing

Trails line the area in and around Peace River, so there is no shortage of opportunities for snowshoeing around the area. Alternatively, head off the beaten path and explore Alberta’s wilderness (safely, of course).

No town in the Mighty Peace region is complete without a local skating rink and that includes Peace River itself. Stop by and lace up to skate away or get your gear on and get a hockey game going. The choice is yours to make.

Don’t miss out on the Alberta Pond Hockey Championship either! This year’s championship is held from March 6-8 at Lac Cardinal, and the competition is sure to be fierce. Enjoy activities between the games like live music, snow sculptures, and many more. Don’t forget to mark the dates in your calendar.

Snowmobiling

Do you prefer to explore the outdoors at high speeds? Mighty Peace has an expansive network of groomed trails to zip around on from the comfort of your snowmobile.

Come back to comfortable rooms at BCM Inns after a long day zooming around to relax and unwind. Plus, each morning is started off with a great Canadian breakfast.

Downhill and Cross-Country Skiing

You’ll get a solid workout cross-country skiing through the back-country trails of Peace River through many kilometers of beautiful snow. There are plenty of incredible views to witness as well so don’t forget to take some pictures.

Is downhill skiing more your speed? Head to Misery Mountain to zip down over twenty different runs. There are options for all levels of skiers and snowboarders so bring the whole family!

The Mighty Peace region offers plenty to see and do and winter definitely doesn’t slow that down. Everyone can enjoy all kinds of winter activities in Peace River to get the most of their time spent in the gorgeous area.
